Ripple joins the emergency containment effort
Ripple has reportedly frozen approximately $200 million in RLUSD linked to the Binance incident.
Binance co-founder Yi He thanked the Ripple team for promptly freezing approximately 200 million and added: “User Funds are SAFU.” Andy identified the affected asset as RLUSD.
This is the clearest Binance-linked acknowledgement so far of Ripple’s intervention, although a precise wallet and freeze transaction were not included in the supplied update.
What an RLUSD freeze does
RLUSD is an issuer-controlled stablecoin. Like USDT and USDC, its contract can include administrative controls that prevent specified addresses from transferring tokens.
That makes containment possible even after the tokens leave an exchange wallet. It does not reverse the original transaction, and it does not automatically return the value to Binance. Ripple and Binance would still need to complete the relevant recovery, redemption or reissuance process.
How this changes the incident picture
Earlier Hyperdash data attributed about $88.54 million of RLUSD to the first cross-chain snapshot. The new statement refers to approximately $200 million, so the figures may reflect additional wallets, later movements or a broader freeze total.
Until Ripple or Binance publishes the exact addresses and transaction references, Signal21 cannot determine whether the $200 million is entirely additional to the earlier figure or includes balances already counted.
The containment is expanding
Tether and Circle previously froze large USDT and USDC balances. Ripple’s reported action shows that issuers are coordinating across several stable-value assets while native BTC and ETH remain outside any comparable issuer freeze mechanism.
The key distinction remains: frozen is not yet recovered, but it prevents the attributed attacker from moving the affected RLUSD while the recovery process is organized.
This is a developing story. Signal21 will update the article when Ripple publishes the affected addresses or Binance issues a reconciled recovery total.
